L’Associazione ETRURIA NOVA  ONLUS e le Pro-Loco di PRAIA A MARE e SAN NICOLA ARCELLA, in collaborazione con la scuola subacquea DEEP INSIDE DIVING CENTER e la società GIANO SNC, presentano il Primo Corso Internazionale di Introduzione all’Archeologia Subacquea aperto a studenti e volontari che vogliono fare esperienza nel campo dell’archeologia subacquea.
Inserito in un contesto molto suggestivo il corso è stato ideato per sensibilizzare ed introdurre gli appassionati alla conoscenza ed alla tutela dei beni storico-archeologici subacquei di un territorio antichissimo.
Le attività saranno divise in due moduli complementari della durata di una settimana ciascuno,
alla fine dei quali verranno rilasciati i brevetti di OPEN WATER DIVER (O.W.D.) e di ARCHAEOLOGY DIVER.

Archaeology of Lower Valley Bussento Project
The Association Etruria Nova, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage in Campania and the Council of Santa Marina, presents the Second International Archaeological Research Season at Policastro, open to archaeology students and anyone interested in gaining experience in archaeological fieldwork. This year, in the area on interest of archaeological surveys, a bio-archaeology research will start with the aim of studying the landscape and environmental transition in Policastro Bussentino area.
The season will to include:
1.  Continuation of excavation in the area of a roman villa;
2.  Surface survey: detection and census of artifacts and ecofacts;
3.  Workshops: first handling of the archaeological findings and computerization of the data;
4.  Bio-archaeology workshop:  treatment of the organic findings and animal bones gathered during the excavation.
Participation fees:
1 week  - 120 Euro  
2 weeks - 240 Euro
3 weeks - 350 Euro

(annual membership is obligatory):
25 Euro (ordinary membership)
Price includes:
•Accommodation in apartments with 4 or 5 beds, kitchen
and bathroom with shower. Single occupancy may be possible,
on payment of a surcharge, dependent on availability.
•Provision for breakfasts, packed lunches and dinners are made
in their apartments by participants, comprising fresh and tinned
foods, provided by the organization.
•Transfer by car/minibus between the accommodation
and Policastro railway station at fixed hours; transport to the
excavation sites and on excursions.

MARSILIANA D’ALBEGNA PROJECT (GROSSETO, TUSCANY, ITALY)

III  INTERNATIONAL ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH CAMPAIGN
28th AUGUST-30th OCTOBER 2011
The Association Etruria Nova, under the technical direction of the University of Siena and in collaboration
with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage in Tuscany and the Town Council of Manciano,
presents the 3rd International Archaeological Research Campaign
The 2011 research campaign will offer the following:
1-Continuation of the excavation in the Necropolis of Macchiabuia, a site of about 40 Etruscan chamber tombs enclosed by stone circles (end of the 8th - 7th century B.C.).
2-Continuation of the excavation in the “Casa delle Anfore”, a peripheral Etruscan residence with central
atrium (6th - 5th century B.C.). This building has an area of 400 square metres and is divided into at least six
rooms, of which only three have been explored until now.
3-Workshops: initial handling of the archaeological findings and computerization of data.

THE ETRUSCANS IN MARSILIANA (GROSSETO, TUSCANY)

II International Introduction to Archaeology Fieldschool
30 May - 12 June 2011

The Association Etruria Nova, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Tuscany, The University of Siena and the City Council of Manciano, will run an International Introductory Fieldschool in Archaeology based in Marsiliana, Tuscany. This initiative is sponsored by the Province of Grosseto, and is supported by the Marsiliana estate of Prince Corsini. The fieldschool offers participants practical experience in archaeological research methods. It will take the form of two modules, each of one week, led by professional archaeologists, and comprising lectures, seminars, and practical exercises in survey and excavation on sites in the area. These activities will be complemented by visits to major archaeological sites of southern Tuscany. In accord with the statutes of the Association Etruria Nova, the course is open to anyone with an interest in archaeology or the interpretation and conservation of cultural heritage.

Applications are open until May 15. 2011.  The modules will run with a minimum of 18 participants.

Processing of pottery and metal finds of the Etruscan Period

First International Introductory Course in Restoration

12th - 26 June 2011, Marsiliana d'Albegna, Grosseto, Italy

The course will comprise two module, each of one week, and will include classroom instruction and practical restoration sessions, using pottery and metal finds from the 2010 season of excavations at the necropolis of Macchiabuia and the Casa delle Anfore.  It is open anyone interested in learning the basic theory and practice of restoration.

The Technical Director is the conservator Dr. Alberto Mazzoleni. 

Theoretical tutorials on will cover:
1.       Archaeological restoration:  techniques and methods;
2.       Taphonomy: decay and corrosion;
3.       Recovery through excavation: methods;
4.       Conservation: active and passive;
5.       Storage and display of finds: basic principles
6.       Restoration of Etruscan pottery (cleaning and consolidation, methods and materials in reassembly)
7.       Restoration of metals (cleaning techniques (chemical and mechanical), anti-corrosion treatment.
8.       Organisation of a restoration laboratory for pottery and metal finds.

The theoretical lectures will be complemented by supervised practical sessions.

The course is run by The Etruria Nova Association in collaboration with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Tuscany and the University of Siena.

Detecting Cultural Landscape in Mediterranean Archaeology (DeCLaMA 2011)

Historical and archaeological features are recurrent components of the Mediterranean Cultural Landscape, yet are little understood. It may be a monumental centuries-old tree, or antique varieties of fruit trees and vines, or artefacts leading back to ancient uses of the land, such as terraces, charcoal-burning sites, or abandoned vineyards, olive-groves, or chestnut orchards. This course offers theoretic and practical tuition in the rediscovery, evaluation, and management of these parts of the Cultural Landscape, with the aim of enriching the landscape surrounding archaeological sites. A new understanding of the use of  Cultural Landscape will proceed from the innovative multidisciplinary approach of the course, through the perspectives of botanists, archaeologists, geographers, managers and landscape architects.
