II International Introduction to Archaeology Fieldschool

30 May - 12 June 2011

The Association Etruria Nova, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Cultural Heritage of Tuscany, The University of Siena and the City Council of Manciano, will run an International Introductory Fieldschool in Archaeology based in Marsiliana, Tuscany. This initiative is sponsored by the Province of Grosseto, and is supported by the Marsiliana estate of Prince Corsini. The fieldschool offers participants practical experience in archaeological research methods. It will take the form of two modules, each of one week, led by professional archaeologists, and comprising lectures, seminars, and practical exercises in survey and excavation on sites in the area. These activities will be complemented by visits to major archaeological sites of southern Tuscany. In accord with the statutes of the Association Etruria Nova, the course is open to anyone with an interest in archaeology or the interpretation and conservation of cultural heritage.

Course fees:

Module 1 (Basic)  €350

Module 2 (Intermediate) €350

Module 1 + Module 2 €680

Applications are open until May 15. 2011.  The modules will run with a minimum of 18 participants.

Fees cover:

Accommodation at the agriturismo "La Speranza" (www.agriturismolasperanza.it) in apartments of 4/5 beds, with kitchen and bathroom.  Bed linen and towels are provided.  Some single rooms will be available, on payment of a supplement.

Use of swimming pool.

Breakfasts in the apartments, packed lunches, and dinner (at a local restaurant).

Transfers from and to the nearest railway station (Albinia, Orbetello), transport to sites and on excursions.

Theoretical and practical tuition, including course notes, in Italian and English.

Course certificate.

Fees do not include:

Entry to museums and/or sites on excursions.

Additional services in the accommodation (5-a-side football pitch, sauna, laundry, and air conditioning).

Insurance included in subscription to the Association Etruria Nova (obligatory) - €25.

Any other activities/services not expressly specified above.
